𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟏: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡
Day 21 didn't leave much to write home about. And honestly? That's a gift.
Things ran smoothly today. We're managing a few cases of pancreatitis, which is relatively rare in cats, but they're stable and responding to treatment. It was slow enough that we actually got through our entire task list, and then something happened that almost never happens—my team came to me and asked for more work.
When that happens, we don't manufacture busywork. We take that time to spend with the cats.
I got to sit with a sweet kitty on my lap who has just started coming around. We handed out treats, made our rounds without rushing, actually had conversations with the cats instead of just checking boxes on charts. I absolutely cherish these moments. They're rare.
No adoptions today. No intakes either.
A couple of our seniors are still struggling to adjust to life without their person, but we're continuing to manage them the best we can. They need time more than they need interventions right now.
Some days in rescue are defined by what goes wrong or what gets saved. Some days are defined by what doesn't happen—no emergencies, no crises, no heartbreak. Just steady, quiet work and a little extra time to remember why we do this.
I'll take it.
