Day 31: Adults, Babies, and the One Under the Shed
Today was a good day overall. It can never be too bad when we get 2 adults adopted out! I am always thankful to see people pick adults over kittens.
The Stolen Babies
Yesterday, the team took in 5 bottle babies. Unfortunately, these wee little ones were stolen from their mother. The finders chased the mama off to take the babies and bring them to us. They also came with no intake fee. There wasn't anything we could do but take them. People like that would probably not bring the babies back to mom.
As much as we try to educate, we still end up encountering people like that.
From the start, these babies will be challenged because they came with their umbilical cords and placenta still attached and without their mom. I doubt the people will catch mom and spay her either.
The Numbers
Over the last 3 days, we took in:
- 7 kittens (in addition to the 5 bottle babies)
- 2 shelter returns
- 6 adults (most of them 8 years old and up, and one of them 17 years old!)
No Extra Time
Today left us no extra time. Since we got a lot of older kiddos in, we have to do full bloodwork and x-rays on all of them. We have them all ready for our doctor to look at on Monday and make sure they're healthy enough to enter the shelter or foster.
The One Under the Shed
We have an intact male on the property that we've been trying to catch. He's under one of our sheds and he's just bellowing out. He sounds so sad but we cannot get him to come out. When he goes quiet, if we talk to him, he comes back out.
One of our property cats is terrorizing him so I'm sure that's part of the problem. We need all the good vibes we can to catch this guy and get him fixed and then figure out the next steps.
We get a lot of unaltered cats who wander over from the apartment complex next door. They've never been microchipped either so we wait the 3 days of stray hold and then we take their bits.
The Good at the End of the Day
Still, at the end of the day, we can celebrate that two more adults found their homes and that our newest little lives are receiving the best chance possible with one of our amazing bottle baby fosters.
We will see what tomorrow brings.
