Another day "off" - which in shelter supervisor language means I'm still getting every update and texting our amazing veterinarian about my cats. Being the boss means you don't truly get a day off. I need to know what's happening with my cats at all times.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐬:

Wunka went home today. Let that sink in for a second - Wunka has been a resident since 2021. Nearly four years waiting for the right person to see her. Today, a previous adopter saw what we've always known was there, and she finally got her chance.

Zilarra, a young FeLV kitten, also found her forever home with another previous adopter.

We love when previous adopters come back. There's a level of comfort and trust that comes with someone who's already proven themselves. We know these cats are going to good homes.

There's a lot of trust placed in every adoption we do. Over the years, many people have let the cats down. When our cats come back after being found as strays, it gets harder to believe anyone is good enough. We have to celebrate those wins when someone earns the trust of a long-time resident and gets approved to take them home. All we can do is continue to trust and pray everything works out in the best interest of the cat.

Our open shelter presents many challenges. One of those challenges is ringworm. We've been fighting an uphill battle for a while in one of our kitten rooms. We marked that room as having had ringworm exposure and I've been pulling cats out for isolation - enough that I haven't been comfortable putting any more cats in there.

Today some cats came out of isolation, which freed up space for my remaining 3 kittens from the kitten room. I had to make the decision to pull them. The good news: I can now have the room properly disinfected and get it loaded with adoptable kittens again. The bad news: 3 more cats are now in isolation, making it completely full.

We had another baby diagnosed with FIP today, so we're starting off the year getting ready to save another cat. Keep the good thoughts coming - we're going for 100% saves again in 2026.

Tomorrow is our first Saturday since we reopened, so it should be interesting. I'm sure I'll have much more to report tomorrow.

Until then, I hope your New Year is off to a good start.
